KU Leuven Alumni Invitation 12 July: “Helping to deliver Net Zero from space” with Frank Schoofs

Following the memorable event on 10 May on the occasion of the mission of KU Leuven Rector Luc Sels and Minister President of Flanders Jan Jambon (see the pictures), the KU Leuven Alumni Chapter UK is excited to announce our next event on 12 July:
“Helping to deliver Net Zero from space” – A session on space-based solar power with Frank Schoofs
Chances are that you have not yet heard about space-based solar power. Yet, it is a decades-old idea for renewable energy that can now become reality. The UK’s Space Energy Initiative has a roadmap to power a city from space in the next 15 years. Come andhear more about the technology, the roadmap and the challenges ahead.
In a TED-style talk Frank will provide a brief overview of his role at Satellite Applications Catapult and their exciting research into space-based solar power.

This event is free and open to both KU Leuven alumni and non-alumni.
Please note the Keynote Lecture will take place in the Victoria Room at the BLCC Club House, followed by the Networking Social at Boyds Grill & Wine Bar (both located at 8 Northumberland Avenue, WC2N 5BY).

Dr Frank Schoofs is a materials engineer who graduated from KU Leuven in 2008. After working with single-unit-cell multifunctional materials, diamond and fusion reactors, he is now at the Satellite Applications Catapult, helping to build the capabilities to power the Earth from Space. In his spare time, he organises a local Repair Café.
