EU citizens living in the UK after Brexit

27th January 2020 @ 12:30 pm - 2:30 pm

As you know, the Government plans to change the immigration rules applying to EU citizens living in the UK after Brexit.

This means every EU (and EEA) citizen needs to apply for permission to remain in the UK under the new ‘EU Settlement Scheme’ by 30 June 2021. Failure to do so will have dire consequences – impacting peoples’ rights to rent, employment, benefits and free NHS healthcare. It may even lead to citizens, and their family members, losing their right to stay in the UK.

Scott Ainslie, Green Party MEP for London, would like to invite you to join him for a lunchtime event to learn more about the ‘EU Settlement Scheme’:

Far from ‘settled’: How can we protect the rights of vulnerable EU citizens after Brexit?

This panel discussion will be held at Amnesty International UK on Monday 27th January, and address questions such as: What do EU nationals need to do to apply for the EU Settlement Scheme? What will be the consequences of failing to apply? How can we be sure to reach vulnerable groups? What can you do to support this process? How can we ensure that the rights of EU nationals are protected after Brexit?

The expert panel will include:

Alexandra Bulat – the3million (campaign group representing EU citizens in the UK)

Christopher Desira – Seraphus (award-winning immigration law specialists)

A representative from the Joint Council for the Welfare of Immigrants (independent NGO specialising in the protection of migrants’ rights)

The lively discussion will be followed by a Q&A, and there will be an opportunity for further discussion afterwards over tea/coffee and cake.
