Brexit Seminar

6th December 2017 @ 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm

On Wednesday 6 December, The Belgian-Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce in Great Britain (BLCC), in conjunction with PwC Belgium’s Customs & International Trade team, is organising the second session in a series of quarterly workshops in Belgium to discuss the potential customs impact of Brexit on the way you and your company will be doing business with the UK.

Key speakers and panel will include:

  • Mr. Luc Verhaeghe, Advisor & Brexit Specialist – Belgian Customs Authority
  • Mr. Ivan Ollevier – Journalist Foreign Desk and Brexit specialist, VRT
  • Mr. Wim Pollet, Customs and International Trade Compliance senior manager – PwC Belgium
  • Mr. Michel Vanhoonacker, Chairman Belgian-Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce, Moderator

This workshop will cover the importance of Brexit and the potential impact it will bring for the Belgian Customs Authority. In what way is the Belgian Customs Authority preparing for Brexit? What is the advice from the Belgian Customs Authority to companies who for decades considered the UK as an intra-Community trading partner. With the sudden implementation of the administrative border, their administration, organisation, processes, etc. will have to adapt. The UK is, for a lot of Belgian companies, their most important market.

In addition, the workshop will focus on Free Trade Agreements (FTA’s) for the EU as the new trading relationship with the UK will eventually be governed by such an agreement. How your company can benefit from a FTA and how to realise those advantages. What is the strategy of the EU regarding FTA’s. The workshop will also focus on the process behind the negotiations when drafting a Free Trade Agreement. What are the lessons learnt for the EU up until today? What are the possible trade barriers? Will it be beneficial to become a Registered Exporter (REX)?  The political view of the implementation of a FTA will also be discussed.

The purpose and objectives of our Brexit sessions are numerous and we do hope that they will increase your awareness of the potential scenarios which can be expected and will also enable you to prepare your company in dealing with this complex and multi-angled issue.
