Flemish Film Classics: Kid

As part of Flemish Film Classics, a landmark celebration of Flemish cinema taking place across London from 12-15 June 2026, The Garden Cinema will screen Kid, one of the defining works of the contemporary Flemish Wave.
Curated by Belgian film historian Wouter Hessels in partnership with Flanders House, CINEMATEK and other Belgian cultural institutions, this special programme brings important Belgian films to London audiences through newly restored and celebrated works.
About the Film
Directed by Fien Troch, Kid (2012) is a deeply moving portrait of childhood, family, and displacement.
The film follows seven-year-old Kid, whose world is turned upside down when he and his brother are forced to leave their family home and move in with relatives. Through Kid’s perspective, Troch crafts a powerful and emotionally precise exploration of loss, resilience, and belonging.
Widely recognised as a cornerstone of the Flemish Wave, Kid exemplifies the thoughtful and internationally acclaimed filmmaking that has helped establish Belgium as one of Europe’s most influential contemporary cinema cultures.
