Les Carrières de la Pierre Bleue Belge extracts, processes and supplies Belgian Blue limestone (Bluestone). Their first quarry was opened in Soignies in 1668. Today the company exports approximately 28% of their turnover, with approximately 5% going to the UK for use in construction projects, both large and small.

The Jury was particularly impressed with the ethical approach of how the company is conducting business. Its products comply with the Modern Slavery Act giving it a clear competitive advantage over many of its cheaper competitors. Environmentally speaking, the company also has the edge over the mainly Asian competition, being only 200 miles from its main market in London.
