DESCRIPTION:As part of Flemish Film Classics\, a landmark celebration of Flemish cinema taking place across London from 12–15 June 2026\, The Garden Cinema will present a special screening of Malpertuis\, one of the most extraordinary works in Belgian film history. \nCurated by Belgian film historian Wouter Hessels in partnership with Flanders House\, CINEMATEK and other Belgian cultural institutions\, Flemish Film Classics brings rare restorations of Belgian films to London audiences as part of the Barbican’s Cinema Restored programme. \nAbout the Film\nDirected by Harry Kümel and starring Orson Welles\, Malpertuis (1971) is a phantasmagoric gothic masterpiece widely regarded as one of the great achievements of Belgian cinema. \nThe story follows sailor Jan as he arrives at the mysterious Malpertuis\, a strange mansion inhabited by eccentric relatives bound together by an inheritance and an even darker secret.
